I second this. Repositories are cheap and can be used to express  
stucture. So why merge /home and /etc when those have little in common?

Not that, but I stumbled on a tool that helps keep /etc in  
Subversion. http://plantalta.homelinux.net/~mdione/projects/sylvan/
