Hmm...  I don't know; isn't "-ify" a common enough "verbifier" (there I
go again!) I'm not even sure if I heard this specific one somewhere
before either, now that I think about it.

In India, the use of "-fy" has been pretty common for at least a couple
of decades, maybe more. Especially teens (and many adults too I
suppose, though less often) are quite happy to use it even with Hindi
(or Telugu, etc.) words.

I suspect the reason is that, while most urban Indians are at least
bi-lingual (often tri-lingual), they don't necessarily know every single
concept or word in all the languages they do know. So gaps in forming a
sentence are filled in any old how.

For example, a girl might say "don't gillu-fy me" to her brother.
"gillu" is "pinch" in Telugu; so this is "don't pinch me". This does
not necessarily mean the child does not know the English word "pinch";
she may know it, but the Telugu word came quicker to her mind, so she
just used it and did something to make it fit.

(Apologies for the long reply; it *is* Saturday and I'm feeling too lazy
to make the effort to be brief!)
